Question about applying emulsion to screen.
« on: January 15, 2017, 07:17:45 PM »
Hello,
I am new to silk screen world and I have a question about applying emulsion to the screen. The emulsion that I purchased is “Murakami Direct Emulsion Diazo Type SP-Pro”

This will be my first time applying this emulsion to screen and the sales from Murakami told me that they usually coat; printing side 2x, t-shirt side 2x. Let it dry then coat the t-shirt side again 2x.

I remember I read somewhere in the forum, most people coat their screen 1x printing side and 2x t-shirt side.

My question is, how many coating do you guys apply to your screen? More coating is better?

I also purchased M&R Starlight UV Led Screen exposure system. Exposing with this unit on Murakami SP-pro, how long should I set the exposure time?

Thank you so much.

There is no simple answer, as this is not a one-size-fits-all situation.
Mesh count, viscosity of emulsion, which side of the coater is used, and speed all affect the end result.
What we want to achieve is sufficient EOM (emulsion over mesh) and this article probably explains it as well as any can, as well as teaching you the "glisten" method.

That rug really tied the room together, did it not?
