Make Or Break Time.

I was doing some moon lighting at this job with a buddy... but it grew to more than moon lighting and so did the pay.  It was nice but it was taking it's toll.

They didn't like that they were my "other job" and not my main job... so one day I hear that they were "secretly" training a  new guy.  So finally they called me in "early" and I knew what was up.  They said "we've decided to go a different direction..." Which I thought was a clever way to fire someone.  But either way I harassed them about the why and such because they really didn't have any grounds but made up a few to which I said "that's fine and I'm not arguing for my job, but know that you are dead wrong, those things never happened and you know it."

As I walked out that day I was so relieved and thought... man, if they weren't firing me... I really would have been disappointed.

Some times that "regular" job is just a drain on your life.  Take this opportunity (because that is exactly what it is) and make crap happen.  You seem to have things setup (4 month emergency fund), take advantage of it, don't squander it.  It may be tough at first but you can make it happen, everyone might need to tighten up the belts for a few months but I'm sure you have that under control.

Soon you will be like me, wondering how they do it when you hear some of the horror stories of having to work on someone else's time.

I have 3 young ones and wife that cant work due to bad rheumatoid arthritis after taking a nasty birth control (Depo-Provera) shot (hopefully suing someone). I'm not sure how I do it but I'm doing it... things have their way of working out. Don't stress it'll make you sick.

EXACTLY... not to get too far off topic.

But it was a night shift 6pm to 6am job coordinating transportation for off shore personal.  Though slightly dramatic but still true, people's lives were in my hands... I had to make sure I had the right drivers for the right job and no one was driving too tired or past their time to drive in a 24 hour day.  (The drivers got treated like crap, and underpaid).  Well, half the week was just me with no dispatch help.  But they felt in our "down time" we should file paper work.  Yet we constantly heard stories of the girl's who's job it was to handle that paper work taking long lunch breaks and reading books, texting and surfing the web vs doing that paper work during the day.

Well, we couldn't even leave for lunch much less stop working, for 12 hours straight... phone rang... we HAD to answer it, no one else would!

So I refused  to do "busy work" that wasn't directly related to my job.

If I got an hour of "down time" where things got slow I would watch tv and veg out... it was more important to me to rest my mind for IF things got busy than to file some dumb reports that wasn't anything to do with my job.

I just kept telling them "Ok, if I get time I might do that."

Where as the other guys depended on the job and just did what they were told for fear of being fired.  I guess I became the example to help crack that whip.  It was a nice 20k bump in pay that year for 6 months of work on top of my regular gig.

Sometimes losing the security blanket is just what is needed to force success.  I'm sure you'll be fine!

this is such bullshit...there was NO JOB SECURITY in your old job....you now truly have job security...now it is time to get motivated and set up as a business and kick ass...there are millions of people who want and need shirts so go get them...printing is the easy part....it is the rest that is the problem.
