Printing Sheets of Barcode Labels - 8.5"x11"
« on: November 30, 2016, 03:25:14 PM »
So there are ways to print and not to print barcode labels.  Inkjet is a no-no, toner is pretty good (not the best but works).  Right now we use toner from a $400 Brother printer printed from the feed through tray.  It works okay but sometimes the toner doesn't stay as well as it should and gets 'streaky'.  This is with replacing drum / toner often, even more so than needed.

Anyone have a specific printer they recommend that would definitely print 8.5"x11" label sheets well?  We have been going through one of these printers every year right now.

Thanks

Why is inkjet a no no, I generate Bar codes with Corel drake and print sheets both on simple laser and inkjet.   Been doing this for years.

Fuzzy edges definitely don't make for good scans... width of the lines are where it's at.

I agree though, that they should be ok if properly functioning decent printer.

We are printing half tone dots using inkjet.     Should be able to manage a bar code.
Maybe set it for less ink to keep the edges sharp.

I remember seeing label printers at one of the trade shows...http://www.quicklabel.com/products/barcode-label-printers.html
These do not print 8.5x11 though.

Stick with the Zebra printers.  We use model #GX430T for our barcodes.  It's a thermal printer so it doesn't require ink cartridges.  They print fast and it comes with the software to create the proper formatted barcodes.  After doing it this way I couldn't imagine going back to printing sheets on a laserjet.

For now we need to stick to toner it looks like to do the 8.5"x11" sheets.   I guess we will just keep going through a Brother printer once a year still.

The main issue is how thick label paper is so it requires more heat (slower print so the fuser works properly) but it becomes inconsistent at times - I believe when printing hundreds of sheets at a time.

I was hoping someone would know of a better toner printer with a great fuser perhaps.

I have done them occasionally and use an HP LaserJet. As for as the getting darker toner
on the paper, you can use some of that spray stuff we used to use to darker vellum
(hint, it's nothing more that an overpriced can of clear spray lacquer).

though I wonder if the clear coating could affect scans like tape can

The Zebra is definitely the way to go, just get a GX430T and stop burning through printers.   We've had the same Zebra printer for years and printed 100's of thousands of labels on it with no problems

We can't - this is for a sheet of them since they are for individually bagged shirts - each bag getting a 1x2.6" label (sheet is 10x3 labels).
