Uni-Kote Coating Passes etc

What settings is everyone using for their Uni-Kote?

On Chromablue and high solids we are running 2-3 rounded, and then even on some applications coming back and running another 2 coats on print side to get thicker stencils. I think we are running it pretty fast though.

Trying to find the perfect thickness before it all starts to drip through.
I spend too much money on equipment...

If you are trying to build thicker stencils try slowing the uni-kote down a bit like you mentioned. It will do wonders for your EOM.
I would start with 35-40 on the freq drive.

We are coating 1 over 1 with cryocoat on our unikote. 25 speed, round edge on the shirt side, sharp edge on the opposite side. High mesh we are 12% eom and lower mesh we are around 20% eom.... Flipping the coaters will give us 7% variance in eom at 25 speed. I'd say if your having to coat more then 1 over 1 with an auto coater you should look at a different emulsion/coating technique. 1 over 1 saves so much time

I agree with this. Our settings aren't the same as Danny, but we are using a different emulsion. Play with your settings and the sides of the coater untill you get the eom you are looking for. Also maybe try backing off your psi a bit too.

Well that certainly would suck. Not looking at it right now but, can't you adjust the tilt delay to stop it from pouring early.

Funny things is on our thin thread mesh we had to work a bit to pull back the eom when we first set it up.

I think we have our Tilt delay on 3-4 seconds as the emulsion was thick and took a second or two to get all the way to the screen when the trough was half full or less.

But it would dump it before it even got to the screen.


We did try the 1/1 today at 25hz. Seemed to get a decent cote. Then we tried a 1 print/2 squeegee and that worked really well. I don't have a meter, but by touch/and looking it looks like a real good edge.

We've got to figure something out for our 60-80 mesh though. Seems that we can put too much on and it all drips though. So now we are doing a 1/1 then letting it dry and re-coat.

You need a different type emulsion for the super low mesh stuff to build thicker stencils. Try murakami HS - that is real good on low mesh

Murikami T9 is a really thick one too, and has that advantage of use with discharge ink if post exposed.
