Nuarc 3140 strike failure

3140 tripped the breaker last week during/at beginning of exposure. Reset and get strike failure,
replaced lamp with brand new and still the same. Pretty much narrowed down to choke or starter circuit,
but not a big fan of throwing expensive non-returnable parts at a problem. Any one been down this road?
Feel like taking the thing out back and shooting it.

yeah, went through that about a year ago. Opened the unit up and there was molten copper everywhere around one of the transformers. . .


we also had a problem with the wiring. The unit we have is pre M&R days and they fixed that issue with rev2. What version do you have?

My advice, call a tech at M&R. You'll get a walk through of the trouble-shooting and almost guaranteed they can solve the problem.

My $10 is on the Lamp Sense to PLC Cable. Just slightly off and you will get strike failures. Give me a ring tomorrow if you want but tell you what Isreal Martinez at M&R is the man when it comes to this!

Been speaking to Israel over the past few days.
He is good but can't pin failure on one part for certain.

To clarify, the lamp won't strike at all. I think the only components
in the circuit during startup are the transformer/choke and the starting
circuit board. And as long as you have power to the starting circuit board
while it's trying to strike (I do) then your relays/contacts/plc is good.

Not sure what version I have, it's the fully enclosed one, fairly
recent. Would the manual or unit itself have a revision number somewhere?

Luckily we have an even older Workhorse Photosharp plugging along
so it's not too dire. If I could get a 5k Olec to play with the Nuarc controls
I'd throw that in there and call it done.

I don't know if you just really want it to look clean using the original control, but if you just need an integrator, I have a box of 975's.

Sean have you checked the contactor pads the copper can burn off or they can carbon up really bad and fail to make a connection......  I know LED is not the end all exposure unit but we are really happy we changed from MH to LED .

The plot thickens. Do you know if it has the SW super wide reflector by chance? I know we
discussed it before but I can't recall the outcome.

Awesome, thanks for the offer. I really want the one button vacuum draw down expose that drew me to the Nuarc. I know
some integrators can do it, and it would be easy enough to conjure up if need be, and te Nuarc already has the controls and sensors
necessary...

Yep, first thing I checked, I always suspect anything electromechanical or attached to a heat sink first. Still strongly considering LED,
but the fact that we use diazo exclusively has me wondering if there would be any gain from switching, or any loss for that matter.
If we don't go LED we'll go the other way, 10K mh.

So on my OP it ended up being the choke transformer, the most expensive part of course.

Year and a half after the brand new one and it's looking like the transformer went out again.

Ya'll gonna see video of a Nuarc 3140 flying off the roof of my building. Eff this piece of ess in the eh.
