Fonts Similar to Stahl's Pro Block
« on: September 22, 2016, 11:26:46 AM »
Folks have asked for this countless times on countless forums over the years.
I find this a very elegant, simple font for its purpose, names and numbers on sports shirts.
It is apparently a proprietary font from Stahls for their Die-Cut line, but I wonder if anyone out there has come across a similar "cousin"
I have used Machine, but it is comparatively clunky.

I am partial to this Athletic Font, because it establishes feet on the 1,4,and 7. I use it on a number of jerseys. Alphas are great too.

Thanks, but when I want "feet" I use Stahls Varsity if die cut, and a few in my font arsenal for cutting.
I just usually, when it's up to me, prefer the cleaner look of the san serif Pro Block. btw, I especially think that the foot on top of poor "A's" head looks silly on styles like the linked font.

the best font which is similar is college bold,  but use the lower case of the font.  the upper case letters have feet.

Actually, I like Machine for that, just as you usually do. I have never had a single complaint... also, it's a pro font, so it has all the hints and kerning built in...

Steve

We do have others though, we just hardly ever use them...

This is the one I use as a similar font for Stahls to Pro Block or Pro Narrow

Never saw Machine before, that's a good one too. Thanks for that one.

Motor's pretty good, and Stahls Pro Narrow is available as well, but, as I feared, nothing has changed in fifteen or so years that Stahls is purposefully making it difficult to really copy their proprietary die cut font, even for the occasional fill-in for a missing letter or number (which is often the case here)
Thanks all.

Not sure if these will help but offered here.
I built these from Transfer Express images for the Champ style numbers.
might need a little tweaking but a good start for the style, with my complements.

DUE TO CIRCUMSTANCES COMPLETELY WITHIN MY CONTROL YOU SHOULD GET YOUR OWN TEE SHIRT AND A SHARPIE MARKER BY NOON TOMORROW OR SIMPLY CALL SOMEONE WHO GIVES A SHIRT.

That's the saving grace of these squared-off athletic styles: they can be re-created with straight lines.
Many's the time when some of us die-cut users have cut a missing letter from a spare larger number or other surplus material.

That's why we ended up buying a cutter. I have lots of die cut numbers that have been sitting around forever. You just can't order a team set anymore. Everybody has to have their own number...... :-X
At least this way, I can cut whatever is required and I don't end up piles of things that will not ever be used up.

Actually, if you do eventually use them, a pack of 8" numbers (for instance) is cheaper than the material needed to cut them. Do the math.
I use a mix of die cuts and cad cuts.
An interesting thing that has changed (for the good) for me is that white takes care of at least 85% of my needs, with black around 10% and all of the others making up the last 5%.

Most of the exceptions are the colors of the local pro teams.

Search dafont for M54, there is like 8 athletic fonts.  I use them a lot.  The stahls fonts aren't the ones they even use, similar, yes but not the same

M54 Superstar is one of m favorites when I want one with "feet".
Jersey is one I'll be adding to my arsenal.

I agree on the Jersey. That's a nice font. I especially like the number 5. That is the hardest number to not look like an upside down 2.
