While on the subject (well, only on the subject for me technically)... anyone know of a script that will split a layer into separate layers based on colors.

I could see this being for outputting films which is why I'm hoping someone here might know of said script.  Just turn on and off different layers to output.

I know rip programs do this work for you but I'm not trying to output films on this process, just similar concept.

Funny thing is, since you posted this, I've been dealing with a similar problem... drawing grill lines on a cartoon hot rod, then trimming the lines to the grill shape, (which was a Clipping Mask), and applying the Width Tool to the lines to give a hand-inked look.

Still haven't found a quickie solution that would help us both. Ended up releasing the Clipping Mask and just scissoring the lines to the shape.

Not sure if it will help but this is what was purposed in another forum:

Point I would note, as I didn't know... Live Paint Bucket (double click) and select stroke only... then you have to start dragging FROM a stroke.

Definitely outside the box and could be used for some creative effects.

Another solution proposed was:

Quote
In AI CS5, select the stroked paths plus the S, take the Shapebuilder tool and Alt drag or Shift Alt Drag across the parts you want to remove.

Some finishing touches may be required.
