Roller Frames - Seized bolts
« on: July 05, 2016, 01:02:56 PM »
OK.  I have a lot of rollers for frames that I purchased years ago.  I'm trying to get the bolts out to see if I can re use them since it's about 15 to 20 frames I would get.  I'm noticing when I do get the bolts loose that most don't have the cap to prevent water from going in.  My question is am I SCREWED or can these still be used with or without the cap?

Never mind I didn't realize I could get the caps from Stretch Devices but if anyone has a quick tip on getting the inner threads and so forth cleaned up I would greatly appreciate it.

the older style frames used copper based anti seize lube.. well you were supposed to. many never did and the chemical solutions of salts and aluminum with alloy bolts caused oxidation. when the bolts do come out... it's white powder corrosion.. do not breathe that and wear gloves. Nasty stuff.

Once you get the bolts out put em in a bucket and pressure wash them, clean up good. You can get crafty with a longer bolt, cut off the head, into cordless drill, some copper lube and in out kind of thing if the frame threads are loaded with corrosion. load up the threads with the copper lube on the cleaned up bolts and put em back together with new white washers and top washers and cleaned up bolts. Good to go and leak free.
