Dryer exhaust in general ventilation ducts
« on: June 08, 2016, 06:37:02 AM »
Has anyone done it?  Any precautions?

We have ran into an issue with other owners of building, about making holes in the roof.  Nearest walls are 30 or more meters away from future dryer's positions.

thank you for any comments.

you mean like standard HVAC ducts?

BAD IDEA.

#1 reason is that most HVAC systems are a closed loop, so the general duct re-enters into the unit and recirculates the air.

Other reasons it's bad...

Lint build up everywhere that will kill your hvac system.

not rated at enough airflow to actually pull the stuff out of the dryer.

if you are running gas or propane dryers, you're venting carbon monoxide into your space.

I just put in a 10 m exhaust and it works fine with our gas dryer.
Any further and you'd need a booster fan inline.

Are you talking about venting a gas dryer into the general ventilation ducts of the building? The list of reasons not to do this is very long, and starts with CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING.
There is scarcely anything in the world that some man cannot make a little worse, and sell a little more cheaply. The person who buys on price alone is this man's lawful prey.

yes, that was the idea. The general ventilation is sucking air out of the building, but thank you for pointing the obvious. We found good solution to get out through side walls.
