That seems right to me, but sometimes, a nice design is a nice design. That being said, the wife gave a cool shirt with a lot of effects one time of a band I never heard of (which means they were probably pretty famous, and me out of touch, which is fine with me) and couldn't bring myself to wear it...

I think that the opposite is even more true.
A fan might wear a fairly mundane design-adorned shirt that identifies a favorite band.
That rug really tied the room together, did it not?

As a guy who has been in many bands, I'd say it fine. You just have to be willing to A: admit straight up you have no idea who the band is, or B: be the best at BSing your way into talking about a band you've never heard.

Or actually, the best answer, take 5 minutes and look the band up in the google tubes! See if they're actually any good, or if you're going to be embarrassed to have somebody be like "OMG, are you also into The Random Obscuros?"

I would think that a band would want as many people as possible wearing their merch.  Most bands make there money off merch.

Yes, but rabid fans are a funny bunch, with a lot of rules as to who's the more legit fan, and such...

Steve

Also have been in many bands, if I didn't hate the business end so much, I'd probably have done that...

Saw a Misfits skulls shirt a few years ago--in a 2T size on a little girl.

Always makes me wonder if mom and dad ever listened to that song...
