End use. Some are cork or rubber backed to prevent slipping; some are designed for economy and promotional use, others for greater durability.
Artwork. Almost any art works, from logos to full-color graphics and photos, which can be particularly profitable. Some suppliers offer templates in the shape of the coasters they offer for download to aid in designing artwork.
Printing. Sublimation, laser and some inkjet transfers can be used. Transfers can be applied to almost any kind of coaster, but sublimation requires a surface with an ink-receptive coating.
Some types of transfers may eventually scratch off, making it smart to apply a clear protective coating after pressing. Jigs are available for some coaster styles to make it easier to line up images for printing in bulk.
