« on: April 02, 2016, 07:59:14 PM »
Has anyone used this printer for films. I see Epson sells it with the black pearl accurip for films.

Just looked it up. Pretty interesting. I wonder if this will be a suitable replacement for the 4880's. It will use roll media too (optional purchase).

It looks like the "screen print" version comes with accurip and a different black ink (?) and costs and additional $500. For people who already have accurip (or another rip), I wonder If they will discount it, or if you would be better off by a "normal" one and swapping the black ink.

I will say this on P800 80ml ink carts. Going to use the ink great for epson. I have the T3270 running 2 blacks with rest clean carts to not burn head out with cadlink (Filmmaker XL version). 700 ml black by brian at Filmdirectonline. I have not had problems I do Zoocity did. I had 4800 and 4880. 4800 lasted 12 years So if I get that out this I think at that point I will go Direct to screen but.I printed 123" x 17 in 30-35 minutes today. Thats ripped and printed. The std carts in a 4800 up are 110ml and they are doing 80ml on the new P800????
Sound great for them.
My thoughts.

I have one. Have had it a couple weeks now.
I did have the 4900 that died and that was a big bummer.  Then got the 1430 which works good but only prints 13" wide which was bothering me and hindering my films for a while.  The P800 has worked good so far.  Feels good to print close to 17" wide again.
Couple bummers: You have to have Accurip Black Pearl SE for it to work.  Won't work with another accurip account which I had.
Also a huge bummer is that you can only use the P800 or the T3270 with accurip on the computer you're using to print out your films.  Can't use say the 1430 on the same computer.  Bummer!  I'm a one man / one computer shop.   If you have any questions feel to ask.

How has the speed been printing films with the printer. It has only 80cc cart, does it seem to run out fast? Does it run off 1 black or multiples of black? How has the density been? Thanks

Speed is ok I suppose.  I use the faster setting.  Not sure on what you're used to though.  I'm planning on ordering another black cartridge for backup.  I have an all black system on my 1430 which is useful.  Far as I know there isn't one for this system.  I think filmdirectonline.com in in the process of making one that will hopefully work.  I believe it uses the photo black cartridge.  I think you can change it to the matte black but not positive.  Hope that helps.
