mini sprint 2000 dryer, latches

We just installed a new drone on our mini sprint, and somehow managed to strip out these latches on our exit hood piece. Is there an easy way to rethread that center hex nut, so that we can still use these?

Maybe a threaded sleeve. But I could see this may be messing with the latch mechanism. You can check auto stores, or someone who carries a lot of bolts and fasteners.

Best bet is get the part number from M&R and replace it.

We can ship one tomorrow for next day delivery. Freight is more than the part I am sure.

Those latches are garbage,  Rich you need to change them! They corrode from heat, not the right part for the job.

Your opinion of the latch is a little different than our history shows. we purchase over 10,000 of these latched annually. Our sales of this part over the last 10 years is 269 pieces. 269 pieces being replaced out of 100,000 is not a bad part. If you experience failure of this part it is usually for two reasons. One is heat. If the dryer gaskets are bad or the bull nose insulation between the sections is bad the bracket will eventually fail due to excessuve heat. The other way we have seen the units fail is customers not properly aligning the sections and then expecting the latch to pull them into alignment. In a perfect world these brackets are used once or twice a year. In reality they are probably used only when someone disassembles their dryer to move it. Most never even take their dryer apart to clean it so they are never used other than on install.

That was just constructive criticism,  didn't mean to rile you up! 

I agree that it's heat leak that corrodes them.  Still, it happens even with properly installed units and trying to line up the drones and latch together rusted shut window hardware is no fun/teeters on impossible.  Also agree that the gasket material breaks down over time and needs replacement, which often does not happen in shops, but it's not the user's fault that the drones are designed as such.

Our ho was ran 24/7 for a good part of it's life. I'm not unimpressed!   I simply think a well built dryer deserves a more durable part here that can keep up with the rest of it.

I'm not riled up. I go through a process on a part every time someone states something negative about it. The numbers don't lie and we try and track everything. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. On the new Sprint 3,000 there is no need to disassemble to clean so its a mute issue.

just wondering though, how many people are buying aftermarket parts?  I will many times shop at McMaster or Grainger since I can get it next day or same day without air shipping.

We actually will inform people at times to go that route if its a common part readily available there. Just make sure the brand is the same as all parts are not created equal! If an aftermarket part (a relay as an example) is used we cannot troubleshoot over the phone properly. Just a FYI.

I don't mind buying from grainger or other third parties. but most of the time when it's an odd piece like this, it's hard to find the exact same part!
