Desktop printer

So I can tell you almost anything about the large format film printers etc, but when it comes
to standard desktop paper printing machines I'm clueless. Tired of using my old 3000 for
invoices etc. Fast and reliable she is not.

Anyone have a favorite brand or model? I remember years ago they were selling printers
at the grocery stores for $20, though when you went to purchase new cartridges the price made
the printer abut the same as a high end model. That's the exact opposite of what I want.
I've always liked Epson for not having the heads in the cart.


Also thinking about getting an Android tablet for the receiver and girl at the end of the dryer.
Save paper on proofs and have real time updates on production. Anyone done anything similar?

I just bought an HP4200 for the paperwork printing. It is a black and white laser good for 10-15k prints per month. The one I got had 24k prints so it was just broken in. The toner is good for 12k pages and I picked one up for $40. All together, printer, duplexer and extra toner was under $300. we can print on both sides of the paper (and save a bit there) and should not have to buy anything else for several years (about 20k prints). It comes with a network adapter standard so everybody has access to it.

There were plenty available on ebay and you might even be able to find one close to you.

We used to sell HP printers by truckloads so I know that HP is the way to go with a laser.

Needed a new office printer a couple of months ago, went to staples turns out they have a discountinued aisle, picked up a new epson 610 for $39.00 not display model. If you go ink jet the ink for certian HP's can be salty.

I have Epson 1100. It can print up to 13x19".
In a pinch, you could use it to print seps if you regular one has a problems. I have it set up with CIS from ebay, I have been using it for a year with no issues.
Spits out BW prints very fast, and it prints decent seps too.

It runs around $120 -$130 in stores.

For invoices, don't waste your time on an inkjet.  Go laser.  The Brother lasers are good, but I do think the HP's are a bit better.  You can pick them up cheap for a desktop model.  You will save more in toner than it's worth going with an inkjet.

I don't have much confidence in them. Not to mention Mrs. (Ms?) Meg Whitman former
CEO of Ebay, is now CEO of HP. Used Ebay lately?

Laser is out, I'll still need color occasionally. Something that could double for seps would
be awesome, so the mid-range Epsons might fit the bill.

As color printer for occasional office stuff and backup for the 3000 I went with the 1400. It just seemed to be the best bang for the buck. It does go through the cartridges a lot and even though they are cheap (under $10) it is more of a hassle than anything else. I am not sold on the CIS as couple that I have seen did not work very well.

Well, I think you are looking at it the wrong way.  I have about 6 printers here...
Epson 3000 for film (black only CIS)
Epson 3000 for job tickets (backup as well to the film printer) This printer stays loaded with paper(Full color CIS)
Brother HL-2170W laser for my office(I hate walking to another printer)
Brother GT-541 garment printer(hey, it's still a printer)
HP 1080, it's old, but the carts are cheap and it's a workhorse, sits at the reception desk and prints receipts and ship tickets.
HP fax-copy-print(laser monochrome) same insides as the other HP, so it uses the same carts.

I find it easier to have a cheap laser at everybody's workstation and then the color work order printer in 1 spot.  It saves a lot of time in walking around to get stuff off the printer.

For B&W I use a Samsung Laser ML-2525......Bought it on sale from New Egg for less than 50.00...Been through a few toner cartridges and using Rosewill "clones" ones from New Egg....

Hp1012 -for BW, had an okidata color laser, now we have a brand new Canon copy machine. color laser printers are cheap, they last forever. Inkjet looks ok, but laser looks way more professional in my opinion. we are all digital now so we try not to print anything if we can help it. saves paper too.

paper is cheap and we have free paper recycling.  So it's not a huge issue to print things out.  I avoid it when I can, but it's inevitable.

My father is a general contractor that mainly does commercial remodels.
I would go to work with him as a kid.

The paper waste I saw was astounding, if not downright disgusting. It may grow
on trees, but jeebus cripes.

yeah -I'm not really big on recycling, it's more of a pain than anything but I loose paper so easily. or I write something down and go, is that a 6 or a 5? we are trying to get everything input into a program of sorts to keep all of our orders at a central location so anyone that picks up the phone has an instant answer to "how is my order coming". . .with the paper trail, we had to stop and hunt it down at various stages in production. I wish the sign industry had a program like t-quoter. . .so far they all suck on many levels. . .at the new building, I want to get one of those paper dumpster recycling deals for the public to use. people love that type of stuff. . it shows we care. . .and I do. . .I do care. . .
