Best ink for printing on paper?
« on: December 28, 2015, 08:14:00 AM »
Hello,  I'm looking to purchase a Pantone matching system for printing on paper (poster and fine art prints).  Any suggestions?  thanks!

speedball acrylic is what most flatstock poster printers use.

There is not really a mixing system.   I use tw graphics 5500 series and add pigments with matsui, rutland, tw, and nazadar.   I have a pantone book and match to that based on color theory.  You can use a color pigment system to give you a idea of what pigments you need to use but the bases are all different so you have to wing how of each pigment you need.  The best reference is a pantone book and a dry swatch of ink on the paper your printing on to determine color matching and to write down your recipe.    Good luck!

The best ink I have used to date has been nazdars solvent poster ink but it was not worth the headache so tw water ink won 2nd best.

We do like Underpressure does.  TW5500 is a very aggressive drying ink however.  Speedball is a little more friendly but I don't personally care for it.

Speedball is the most economical choice but TW leaves a much better looking print. We use a combo of the two. A lot of times we will get TW clear base and mix in speedball colors for matching. You can tell the difference when you use TW. Nazdar looks great but is a headache and smells terrible so you literally get a headache.

If you choose to use just speedball don't go under 200 mesh or you will get air bubbles that will show in the print.
