ASDF Palettes
« on: October 06, 2011, 06:09:06 PM »
Hey Integrity I know we both have the same brand, I am curios are you using the supplied palettes with the yellow rubber and if so how are you dealing with removing the palette tape?

As you probably know our first set was switched out with Brians because it would take us hours and mineral spirits to get the tape off, now the set i have is easier but getting harder every time we need to change.

Random thought.

I read somewhere (different press brand) that someone would put down pallet tape as a permanent covering. Then lay another sheet of pallet tape over it. They would switch the top layer and it was super quick and easy. Not sure if this would help at all.

That would work... On the pallet mask issue at least...

We had serious issues with our youth pallets and the tape not coming off.  It took about 30 minutes a pallet and some serious elbow grease to get it all off.  The reason the youth pallets did this and not the adult or sleeve is because we didn't try to remove the tape from the youth pallets till about 6 months after we put the tape on.  We didn't use the youth pallets hardly at all in the beginning so the tape damn near became permanent.  Now I make it a point to remove the tape from the youth and sleeve pallets more often.  I don't think that is Mike's problem at all though, just a random story from me and pallet tape that might help someone not make the mistake we made.

I have all new Action pallets with my press, not the yellow topped ones.  But my press is the used pimp-my-Anatol so the only P-tex parts on it are the chopper assemblies with squeegee air locks and new squeegees and floods.

did you try a different brand of tape? I can send you some of the stuff I am using. We leave it on for months at the time and it all comes off in one piece. We do not have rubber on our plattens though so the circumstances are not the same but it should be worth a try.

Try applying talcum powder first then wipe off with a rag. We use R-Tape. Takes about 2 people about 15 minutes to switch out 12 platens.

Mike, what brand tape are you using?  There are two types of R-tape, Aplitape (4075) and Conform (4075-RLA).  I use the R-tape Conform because that's what we use on the sign side of the business.  It unrolls easier and seems less tacky than another brand I mistakingly ordered once.  I've never had issues with tape removal on either soft-top or bare metal pallets.

If the pallets are  warm the tape peels even easier I've noticed.   I really try to clean mine as much as possible before breaking down and swapping tape.  There are clumps of shirt fuzz under the loading station from me cleaning the darn things.  Really works the wax-on wax-off Danielson muscles!

We use R Tape and buy the same tape for both sign vinyl and our palette tape. We have manual palettes with the white rubber tops and you can flash the tape on for hours and it will still peel off easily.

The issue is the rubber Ptex is using, it is garbage and incorrect for our industry. The surface is some what porous instead of smooth like actions rubber. When removing the tape it actually takes a layer of the rubber with it, you can tell by the change in color.

I have tried the talcum with zero luck, and I have tried the double taping and that sucks because the tape does not adhere to itself well enough.

Eventually we I will just buy new rubber from M&R and replace completely.

Sorry Integ I forgot you are Mustard lol, I actually thought you were the guy from Flying Colors.

We have plenty of rubber here for you when you are ready. We offer a 24" wide roll which is perfect for doing 22" length pallets. For 12 pallets of 16 x 22 - you will need 18 feet. The rubber needs to be slightly larger than the pallet to enable you to trim it and sand it flush. We also offer the 3M adhesive that is best for our industry. You will need 4 quarts and you'll have a bit to spare. Instructions for replacement of your rubber are on our website. Please call us at 800/228-4668 if you have any further questions or you can place the order on our website.
