Underbase Grey

What line of inks are you guys using as an underbase grey?  Using my standard Ultrasoft Grey just doesn't cut it but not real sure what direction to go.

Rutland Barrier Base or One Stroke Digital Black UB are good considerations. Many others.

How about in a sim process style design? I've had a sep come back with a grey base before and was really unsure how to handle it.

Wilflex Russell Gray is a good multi purpose choice.

Careful that ink was not designed for that purpose. Not that it won't work in some instances however if you're trying to block out a camo that would be a no go.

I do keep a blocker grey for that type of job.  Have attempted using ultrasoft as a spot underbase on a job with grey in the design. Opacity is great but the fibers stick up through the design.

we use the wilflex underbase grey and Screen Process of Alabama seems to be the only one who will sell you a gallon.  Everyone else only sells 5s.  That I have seen.

I would underbase that in white.

As with above posts, I do not like the lack of fibre trap that grey has.  A good white will do wonders for you, as well as keep your blues nice and bright.

I have a 2 color job coming up that is white & grey.  Customer does not want to pay for a 3rd screen.  Looking for an UB grey.

Careful.  Cheap ass customers like that will be picky.  You better explain that if he is not willing to pay for the third screen that he my not get the desired look.  Just my 2 cents

I would also use One Stroke ELT white and probably work half tones into it.

I use Matsui water based under base blocker.  Works with water based or plastisol top.

I've been underbasing with Union Ultrasoft Grey and the customers love it.  I'm just not happy as the fibers come through the print unlike basing with my normal white.
