Chameleon registration
« on: November 07, 2015, 08:02:19 PM »
I have a Chameleon 6/6 manual press. I am doing some recalibration and trying to get the press so we can print with all heads down with multiple people on the machine. I matched up head 1 and arm 1 and dropped it down. Then went around the press and adjusted all the gates until all the heads were down. When I lift all the heads up and spin one station then they are out of register. One head will go down and then rest are off. How do I calibrate this press so I can print with all heads down? I checked and made sure the press and arms are level.

We never had much luck printing all heads down on our Chameleon.  Look at machines made for this, Antec especially and I think Workhorse offered a version.

I don't find this feature mentioned in any literature.
I do not believe that this is an all heads down machine.
That rug really tied the room together, did it not?

this will be very hard for anyone to do in the field. The machine has to be ordered that way and we split the registration just like we do an auto. Since the blocks have been moved best way now would be to send to us.

It's good to hear this from the actual horse's mouth Rich, thanks. Avogel is not the first person I've heard with this issue. I think this needs to be pointed out more as people are shopping for this press. Some folks, either assume, or were actually told that this has that capability, (but not told of the need to special order that feature)

Thanks for info. I bought this press used a couple years ago and just assumed since it was a 6/6  that it was made to be all heads down. Just recently decided to try it with multiple people and learned that it did not line up. Guess I can quit scratching my head and get back to printing!

yeah, like has been mentioned, same number of heads and stations is not enough. For instance, Workhorse makes all-heads-down versions of my 6/6 press, but mine ain't one of 'em either! It requires some sort of additional floating gate dealie or something like that.

You might could get it close by putting it into parallel first,  then zeroing out the heads,  loading six screens with a center mark, loosen the eccentric bearings in the gates, drop all heads and tighten the eccentrics to align with a centerline on the platens. You should have a good amount of resistance in the bearing trying to rotate it width finger pressure.

It won't be factory and my take is that the double gated presses are the only ones that can work truly all heads down, but you may be able to team print on it by offsetting the strokes as you print there is only one head in the gate at a time.

Another way to go about this is have one person print and the other index the machine and load shirts the printer basically turns into a human machine this way. You can actually get a lot of output from a single manual  press with two or three operators but only one of them printing.

That's how we did it with our 6/4 before our first auto.  He may already be doing so though...

Time to look into an entry level automatic maybe?
