S Roques in India
« on: October 10, 2015, 11:40:43 AM »
I recently visited my shirt supplier in India and asked them to show me a printing plant.
They took me to a place that has about 12 S Roques, 20 Station 18 head.
Interesting how they print, they use only water base and get really good results but their frames, preparation and exposure were really primitive.
They use steel frames that rust.
I was surprised to see how dirty the machines were.
One floor they had about 7 S Roques and one oven.      They don't put the prints into the dryer immediately after printing, they flash, remove the print and then have people putting the material through the oven.     One oven for 7 machines.

I've noticed from some videos on YT that they do things quite a bit differently(primitive) overseas. Seems like it's not very productive, where I would imagine that want max productivity.

Those S Roq are not even old! How can they be that dirty? Someone who can afford 7 autos can definitely afford one more conveyor (or at least a larger one)

Someone being able to run business with 7 auto probably has good reasons for using one dryer only.

Boris, my thoughts exactly!
In markets OTHER that The USA , factories operate on sometimes the same model as our factories here, but often they
operate on VERY different models than factories in the USA.  Fact! waterbase inks are in demand in more parts of the world
Than plastisol. It is not uncommon for them to flash every color, Then at the end of the day, they are run thru a dryer, by a crew of people dedicated to only that job. Energy cost are far more expensive, both electric and gas (propane). There labor is far less.
This method makes sense.  In The USA it is not uncommon to go into a shop that has dryers on all the time, in use or waiting to
be used and see only one press operating for a good period of time on a multi machine line. A lot of energy being used for one line.
They have a crew that loads the belt and there is not a open space on the belt. I have seen the numbers, and they have a point.
The dryer is on for a specific time only, and at a temperature that matches the ink system being used (water, plastisol, hsa, etc.
They also have and use space differently than the USA. Hence Oval machines, tables, etc
As far as being clean, not bad compared to high volume shops here.
Happy printing

You see "primitive" things everywhere, and I think it has a lot more to do with what they have to work with, what is ACTUALLY needed, and well, if it ain't broke don't fix it!

I saw many shops in Portugal that used thin old wood frames, and they were big frames(maybe 36*36). Tension was low, and they looked rough. Thing is, the prints were amazing(the particular one I'm thinking of was a print for a major well known US fashion company). They didn't care so much about the screens and tension, because their reclaim chemicals were in the form of a razor blade... Why invest in Newmans if you cut the mesh out after every run?

There was a video I'm pretty sure I posted a while back, of a factory in Pakistan that had a flash unit that had propane hooked up to it. When the machine indexed, massive flames would shoot out of the flash unit, they were curing with raw flames. The speed of the following index would put the flames out.

Another video I saw was a large oval with no dryer in sight. They were running 3 jobs simultaneously($$$$$$$) on that press. Belive there was 8 people running that press. They flash dry at the end, stack them, and they get rolled to a line at a large dryer that handled final cure for multiple presses.

First place I worked, had broken springs on all the heads of our manual. It wasn't even talked of or considered replacing them because the bungee cords in their place were holding up fine.

Bare minimum those machines are 4 years old, are they dirty? A bit, yes. How long was the run? 2 hrs or 2 full days? Do they shut down for 1 day a month and clean like mofos? OK, it doesn't really look like that;D but again, if it isn't affecting their day to day is it really a issue? They are doing something right, they have a machine or two.

Seen some crazy videos of multiple colors on darks being printed by placing the screen by eye, stepping on it with 1 foot and then printing.

Sorry for the rant, I just notice how so many places do things SO differently all over the world and can, say that again, CAN end up with the same thing or even sometimes better... Hell, I heard there are still some hidden shops in the US that still use STATICS!!!! :o:o ;D
Alex

Hopefully I'll never have to grow up and get a real job...

Hell, I know of at least one amphibian who just yesterday replaced a couple of old Chinese Green Screen panels!
That rug really tied the room together, did it not?
