« on: October 05, 2015, 04:48:53 PM »

I worked with Photoshop for about 2 years before I finally got comfortable, and there is SOOOO much more to learn.

It is POWerful software and not especially user friendly. Or rather let me say the learning curve is steep.

Lynda.com charges a recurring 25.00 monthly fee on your payment method. But you can start, stop, repeat when not wanted. (I think)

I've been working with photoshop and illustrator for at least 10 years and honestly I learn new stuff on pretty much every single piece of art I do.  It may just be a new shortcut or slightly different way of doing something, but there is always more to learn.

Honestly, just google what you want to do and put "photohop" at the beginning of your search term and someone will have asked the same question and gotten answers.  Like "photoshop add a shadow to text" as a simple example.

I'm pretty much in the same boat.

My suppliers have been very helpful...after that The Web has been my tutor.

One of my favorite tricks is typing a search string similar to this  site:theshirtboard.com Photoshop  or site:theshirtboard.com Photoshop training because google's search engine is just better than any website's built in search I've yet encountered.

For example, site:craigslist.org hopkins press just now returned several active listings. site:tvwbb.com turkey will find about anything you want to know about the upcoming Thanksgiving relating to slow-smoking your bird.

I find what I believe to be the best forum on a particular subject matter, then employ the above trick...simply because that's where the folks who are willing to share the BEST expertise hang out.

theshirtboard.com has made me a better screenprinter and a MUCH more effective student.

if looking for screenprinting specific information, try Mitch Different's book. . .

Yes, we've won our share of awards, and yes, I've tested stuff and read the scientific papers, but ultimately take everything I say with more than just a grain of salt! So if you are looking for trouble, just do as I say or even better, do something I said years ago!

Right here is exactly how I do it. It's actually the reason I don't post much. No need to ask questions when you can find the answers in the search.

I like Great Danes "T-shirt Artwork Simplified" which I believe they have 2 versions, Illy and Photoshop (MAC side) and Corel and Photoshop, check it out at his site. It walks you through everyday applications for what we do. I also liked Mitch Different's book, plus I've been using PS since version 2.0. And, there are tons and tons of free vids, Lynda.com may be the most reputable if you're going to pay.

Corel does do beautiful stuff, but won't port it to Mac, so no dice there. I haven't received a CD file in a few years now.

Great Dane Graphics has a series called Photoshop for Screen Printers that I would NOT recommend based on the title.

There is NOTHING in there that is related to screen printing actually, they do have SOME DTG info.  It's not bad info if you don't know PS at all, but it's nothing you can't learn online or through another means.

I bought it assuming there would be some information about separations and such... nothing.  I got my money back even though they didn't like that.

When I mentioned that I thought there would be sep information in there they said "No one separates in Photoshop."

They did have a chapter on using Studio Separations or whatever that all in one program is.

Just an FYI.

No beef with Dane or any of them, hell their an hour away, I really wanted to be happy with them... just don't let the name fool you like it did me.
