Wilflex white increas
« on: September 29, 2011, 01:34:52 PM »
Starts October 17th on all whites 10% across the board. Based on those quality discharge prints I just saw I'm beginning to think we might need to look at the "Is discharge cheaper" issue. Think of it.....no base screen, no $$$base ink, turn off the flash. And better print quality and even washfastness in some cases. And a base/PC ink generally costs me under $30 p/gallon.

I agree with you Tony. Plus no white laying down like crap issues. Waterbase you just add pressure and print. Well it always sounds easy when you haven't done it...More learning to do.

We gave it a go way back, but the stink just sucked too much. But the results were great. We also gave a shot to a white discharge underbase with plastisol colors through a 305 on top, very nice. But in the end, the stink got us. Has that changed?

Yep, it still stinks, but for high coverage UB's, the opacity of the colors is much better than on a plastisol UB, makes it worth bearing the stench everytime IMO.

Try adding a couple drops of pure vanilla to the mix. It might help!

It tastes better with the vanilla, that's for sure.

That same trick works great with interior paint as well.

Hey guys,
I really don't understand the stink issue. Are you talking about before or after? I mean yes there is odor but not like the entire warehouse is horrible or anything. We do use fans and have a very good ventilation system on our dryers and bay doors open and all but its not that bad. But we do probably use less agent than most shops but still with bright results. Maybe I just can't smell anymore!

Does that really work? Who has tried it?

Also no complaint about the odor here either.

Plasticharge on my old electric dryer was horrific, but actual
waterbased discharge on a well ventilated gas dryer is hardly noticeable.

If I stand next to a screen for awhile I can smell the sulfur that gets
worse as the ink ages, but that's about it.

We were using the Pavonine that Union ink was distributing. It was kind of "Who farted?" or "Hey man, if you're sick, go to the hospital" Favorite brands?

FYI, this is the first in the line of increases. There is at least another 10 if not 20 percent coming shortly!

Yes, we've won our share of awards, and yes, I've tested stuff and read the scientific papers, but ultimately take everything I say with more than just a grain of salt! So if you are looking for trouble, just do as I say or even better, do something I said years ago!

It still has kind of fart smell, I mean if you are used to just plastisol and your average chemicals, I'd say yea it's a stronger smell.  Is it overwhelming or suck really bad, nah, but does it smell good, or what I would prefer to smell, nope.

I also heard it will affect white discharge or any ink containing titanium dioxide I believe it's called, the main ingredient in the white pigment.

I thought the increase was mainly for plastisols, the plasticizers (petroleum based?) being the
being the rising cost.

Could be, but I'm pretty sure that's what a head guy from Wilflex I spoke with last Friday said, maybe Erin will chime in on the subject.
