I want to set up a tallish strip of words VERTICALLY down the left chest on some cotton tees. It is a WB Discharge job.

My floods are the winged type, although they are of the DIY variety made of galvanized sheet metal cobbled together on MUTILATED mounts.

Ick.

But I digress....

The floods can be tipped only so far to cover the image area. And they obviously can't occupy the same space as the squeegees.

So what IS the maximum height I can actually PRINT??? 14 1/2? 15? 15 1/2?

doesn't the stroke cylinder on that press have 18" of travel?  If that's the case, make your squeegee more straight up and down...

tip the flood bar towards the squeegee a bit more, and rock and roll...

you may need to add ink more frequently, but you should be able to get a full 16" print.

I believe you need a 33" long screen to allow the full 16" print stroke

Yes, I believe that's correct. I hadn't considered the squeegee angle would make a difference but it WOULD put it closer to the floodbar. And EXTRA ink would make it easier.

I don't think so Gerry. The limiting factor is in the printhead design. I don't believe a taller screen will make a difference in this point.

I just say that cause I can only get about 14.5 or so with a 31" screen and I know these presses were specd at a 16" long stroke with a max screen size of 23x33, I am guessing that the 33" frame would make that difference but of course I could be wrong.

I don't believe so. 31 is about it. It may accomodate a longish Hix Reten (no longer Hix) maybe 32+. There is no interference between stroke and frame on my press, so screen Length isn't the limiting factor in stroke length...at least in my case.

Frame WIDTH...now that's a different story. I can sometimes get interference between 2 adjacent inside corners of mounted 23x31's. Careless positioning of a left chest on a screen will occasionally force a "collision" right beside another already mounted frame.

on our javelin, the screen hangers are what dictated the maximum print length...  come to think about it, I think the same thing happens with our Sportsman.

that being said, we've run 17.5" long prints on the Sportsman with no problems on a 23x31 screen.

I've decided to set up this particular job on the manual. Its only 130 pcs, one color discharge white. That way I can stretch it up to 22+ inches or so. It is one of those goofy designs that is the name of the (trucking) business listed vertically, Left Chest. And even at a FULL 16, it is pretty short compared to the mockup.

I appreciate all the replies!
