3M 8000 Series Reflective Ink?
« on: August 20, 2015, 05:15:55 PM »
I have a customer that is asking about us printing 1500 shirts a month using 3M 8000 Series Ink. I have not started my research yet but I was told it is an air dry ink. Has anyone used it?

i remember looking into this ink, and thinking it was going to be very difficult, but then we found that One Stroke had an ink that was much easier to use.

Logoman: I'd recommend that you ask your customer if they are using or selling these shirts into a military, or emergency services environment.  If they are it would help explain why they are calling out this specific ink.  The 3M 8010 inks are a three part water based reflective ink system comprising; base, reflective beads & catalyst.  The 3M 8010 inks are often called out for these types of applications because it is manufactured by 3M to achieve military spec levels of reflectivity.  The 3M 8010 ink is not an air dry system, and needs to be cured in a forced air dryer 340F for 2 minutes.  Further information is available at; https://sourceone.nazdar.com/P/3575/8010-Reflective-Textile-Screen-Ink. The ink sells for around $300 per gallon and if you are going to use it, it's really important to understand your cost per print and charge for it accordingly.

Peter the website is wrong on its color description. Its charcoal grey. The grey you are showing is not correct. Just FYI. I ordered from Midwest Sign because I had an account and they ordered it from Nazdar and its charcoal grey not light grey like Wilflex Russell grey like the website shows.

Shane:  Thanks for the heads up on the difference between the color chip shown for this product on the www.SourceOne.Nazdar.com website, and the actual ink color.  The chip shown on the site is only intended to be a guide, but it should at least be in the ball park of the actual ink color and unfortunately in this case we missed the mark.  I will give our web guys a heads up to get it changed.

Thanks

I got screwed by it so I thought you might want to get it in the ball park. Which is great to hear. 3M just needs to change it in the pdf from grey to charcoal grey. Good luck on that.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Re-enforcing PW here At 300 per gal you had better determine yield per piece before pricing. Customers usually run away from this unless its govt stuff.
