Waterbed Gold Metallic
« on: July 30, 2015, 08:27:32 AM »
We had a customer come in looking for a gold foil or similar look. After reading over some previous threads, I don't think I want to bother. However, years ago I used a waterbased metallic gold that had a great, foil like sheen, even though the texture of the fabric came through, it was still very opaque and shiny. I was wondering if anyone can make a recommendation for me. I don't want to mix powder into ink, been there done that. I just want the press operator to open the can and get printing. It's a fairly short run... thanks in advance.

Thanks Tony, I thought you'd reply. I see they recommend a discharge underbase (we already have both of union's clear and white discharge). I'll check it out thanks. And thanks to you to Robert, even though we are talking water based.

You have to request the catalyst separately though I have found you don't need it. Wash test fine without. And it gives it a shelf live. Superior in many ways to most plastisol shimmers and glitters. Soft and shinier

Use Mataui metallic binder and add littler bit golden color.

It's the shine I'm looking for. I've mixed my own, used everybody's, and still to this day, that water based gold metallic kanji characters on a purple t was still the best I've seen. Most of our customers are very happy with plastisol shimmer, but this particular use will be for fashion. I believe the brand was Delta? (we're talking mid '70's)

Magna has some pretty good looking metallics. I have a gallon of glitter base sitting on the ink bench I am testing next week.
