scoop coaters

this might be a silly question, but i figured i'd ask anyway.

Our vastex semi-auto coater comes in on wed. or thursday of this week, and i was thinking about buying a new scoop coater, as I haven't bought a new one in about 7 years.

Any HOT COOL HIP coaters to look at?

Would not go back to any other option for my standard screens, though for my super enormous screens I have one similar to this: http://www.anthemprintingsf.com/AWT-Pro-Angle-Emulsion-Scoop-Coater-p/awt-sc1.htm and it works well enough and isn't too heavy considering it is 40 something inches long.

Neither option has a round side and a sharp side.  The Monster Max kind of has a middle ground between classic sharp and round.  It also holds a ton of emulsion so you can do lots of screens without having to refill.  Easy to control, etc.  I believe in the instructions they suggest putting tape on to get the end caps in the "right" position so the blade sat a tiny bit away from the screen, but I prefer them exactly flush with the blade of the coater.  It led to too much emulsion and mess with the extra distance due to the tape.

The second option I linked is pretty sharp, but precise eom isn't something I really care about for my huge screens.  They are pretty much all waterbased and all one color prints.

I had a monster max and went back to the old school Sefar coater.  It took about 1 extra coat per screen on middle and high mesh screens to get a glisten versus my Sefar coater.  So I can get to my target EOM with less work with the traditional coater, but others who coat differently may get different results.

I should qualify that I coat with one hand and I just could not get the thing to perform like my 18 inch AWT coater.
It is unwieldy  kind of top heavy and just uncomfortable to hold (one handed).

I coat one handed.  It is super easy with the 19" monster max for me, even completely full.  shrug.

I coat slow and steady and 1/1 on every S mesh and lower standard mesh, 2/1 on higher standard mesh.  I am getting very even, solid glisten on the other side like that.  It probably takes me about 10 seconds a side and the screen is angled maybe 15 degrees from vertical.

The AWT Pro Coat 2 has a round and sharp size.  We use these in a variety of sizes. It's big advantage is the lips on either end that will catch any emulsion drips effectively.

Also have a Monster Super Ultra Max one or whatever it's called and it's pretty slick but, as Mimosa mentioned, it's edge is kind of an in-between and will give different results so it hasn't made it into production for lack of time to standardize it.   I like the deeper trough of the Max one.

We really like the AWT coaters and the Sericol ones. Reminds me I have to cut our Sericol coater down in size a little.

We do use the same style coater as the Monster with an agreement with them but have redesigned it a little. Ours has a sharp and round edge as well as a few other slight changes.
