Controller, you just go with the arduino like he has... I saw those at Pierre's favorite store (Microcenter or whatever it's called) for freaking $4 bucks!  That's all you need to drive one of these guys.  Servo wise, I don't know.  I've been thinking about looking for something on that end because of other projects.  Really you just need one with a driver to get the juice to it as the arduino won't supply the juice we would like to see.  Even if you went with something less "controllable" you could always put limit switches in there (like proxies on an auto) to turn the direction around/off.

I like that the Metalnox at least bags the shirt on its own. I wouldn't mind having one of these...but not in the 10k-12k range.

Makes me wonder if something like this could just be made fairly cheap. Minus the bells and whistles.
The problem with that DIY machine is that it`s folding motion is too slow giving you a not so desired final outcome. If the folding speed could be increased this would be avery good alternative to a $12K folder.
