For as long as I can remember, One Stroke inks have commanded a premium price for what many consider premium inks.

Poly ink is one area in which you shouldn't skimp, and btw, aren't some of the Wilflex versions even higher?

Totally agree with this.  The slight increase in cost per print is WELL worth it when using a premium poly ink from any of the ink manufacturers - Wilflex, IC, Rutland, or One Stroke!

And as an FYI .. the most expensive poly ink from Wilflex (Performance) is $148 in a 1G; less per gal in a 5G.

Just to add another FYI... and I could be wrong. So please correct me if I am.  But is it required to use a gray backer on dark poly with Wilflex (Performance) ? And what does that make the total cost ? With the .357 no backer required and no extra screen required. It is ready to go right out of the bucket. at the cost of $169.68.

Hi Robert:

This is a great point actually.  I have not seen a white that will stand up to all polyesters without an underbase blocker, but I will certainly take you at your word.
Here are the metrics as I see it.  For Wilflex, I would use the Echo Underbase Gray which works out to $74.71 per gallon; then I would print on top with The Top Score White which is $76.77 at the highest.

110 mesh for both screens – would work out to ~$0.215 per square foot of coverage.  Going to a finer mesh for the white, say 140, would decrease the cost to $0.187.
Using the same calculations for a white at $169.68 – a 110 mesh single hit would be $0.241 per square foot.  Can a single hit work?  I don’t know.  A 110 PFP would be $0.48.  Moving to a a 160 PFP would still be $0.30 per sq ft.

So, the print cost would actually be higher.  Granted you save a screen, and that is big for the manual printer, not so much for the auto guys specifically if you are print-flash-printing the white which most folks do I imagine.

These calculations were done with a spreadsheet I built that estimates ink cost dependent upon theoretical volume deposited through a given mesh.  It does not calculate stencil thickness, squeegee pressure, fabric penetration, etc.  I attached a screenshot.

Best, Rob

Thanks for the info Rob,Very enlightening.  I was just trying to compare Premium VS Premium cost.
The .357 is the best we offer
The Wilflex Performance, I presume is the best Wilflex offers.

So cost to cost you are looking at $222.71 for Wilflex Preformance with the Blocker and $169.68 for the .357 White. Not trying to undermine anybody's product. Because like I said before EVERYONE of us makes a product that is GREAT.

Have a great evening everybody.

Yep no worries.  It gets very confusing sometimes looking at the myriad of products (white inks especially) that are produced by all the ink manufacturers.  I understand though as white inks account for a large percentage of a shop's usage, so everyone is always on the hunt for the holy grail!  Sometimes the "better" product for one customer is not the same for others, and may even be at a lower price.  So much is dependent upon applications, it is a bit of voodoo and black magic!  Products AND Processes I always say -- the best product  applied incorrectly may yield less than desirable results.

BTW - I like the name .357
