Can I extract a vector from a psd file?

I asked for a vector version of a logo, and received a psd file, which apparently does contain the logo as vector.
New one on me. How do I free it from its raster dungeon?

I think you have to import it; in Illy, (I know you use CD) we would place the file and embed it. Though, one other time Illy being an Adobe product like PS, I simply opened it and it was all vector. If you want to send it to me I could check it out for you...

If you double click on the smart object/vector in the layers panel, it should automatically open it up in Illustrator for editing.

If I had Illustrator, LOL! I'm a proud Corelian who learned a little raster manipulation in Photoshop 5 some years back, and still fall back on PS7 today as much as I use PhotoPAINT.

Depends on the artwork really, but generally putting a PSD into illustrator would give you a raster file saved as a EPS or whatever you decide to save it as. Not exactly a vector. Now if you have a PSD with all Shape layers (which is basically a vector), I believe there are ways to work with it in illustrator.

I have never got a PSD that was all vector. It is possible but no one has ever gave me one that way. I like to deal with PSD files. You don't have to worry about what version they have and the files comes over so you can just outline the fonts even when you dont have the fonts on your computer. Saves me a ton of problems. Have them output the so called Vector PSD to a PDF and then you just have to place that PDF into your Illustrator File and see what you get. You will have to Object/Flatten Transparency (click outline fonts here} to make it an editable Vector.

I got a psd file a few weeks back with vector art all I did was import/place into Illy, people can send you some files that will make you flip your wig at times.

You can save as or export to a .pdf then use the old trick of placing it in a new file in CS
and flatening. resave as a .pdf or .eps and import to Corel. I do that all the time.

As it turned out, the file was one layer, all raster. Perhaps they did start with some vector components, but apparently lost that when flattening it.
Thanks for all the input and sbrem who actually fiddled with it.
