Any Recommendations for an Android Mobile Credit Card Reader?
« on: January 20, 2015, 10:12:39 AM »
Ours crapped out and we have a show in 2 days. It worked with PayPal. (Maybe they all do, but the queen LOVES the way Paypal works.) We rarely do shows, and don't often need Mobile CC Services.

It was glitchy from the get go, but maybe that part was her phone, a Galaxy Note 2 currently on Verizon.

I'm barely credit card savvy, so.

Thanks!
Stan

Cheaper than any others I have seen. I have one of their readers but only use it when away from my terminal.

It deposits directly to your bank account so I dont think so.

I don't know if many readers are cross compatible.

It would seem like a simple device, but it will be seen but not read when I tried.

Paypal should send you another reader free.  Square does.  We have several spares for Square, just keep requesting them.

I'm a square fan also. Definitely get extras because they will crap out on you at random. Getting one in two days might be tough though.

You can buy Square at Target and Square will refund the purchase price once you activate it. If you need it fast.

Kevin, I read this as another vote for Square, added to Bulldog and HeyMonkey.

And I have a friend who uses Square for his On-Site CC services, besides while on the road. He's just now told me he's used his for 3 years and loves it. Even though he uses PayPal for online stuff, he likes Square for the fact the deposit is quicker. He bought the "stand" thingy too. He doesn't even have a CC reader like you'll see at the mall. (Boy, I'm dull with this stuff.)

I'll see what they say at Best Buy about Square vs Plus by EMS.  I can't order one in, not enough time. Target won't have anybody who knows much.  I called our Verizon Corp Store and Square is what they sell the most of, but they were out. That is also a defacto endorsement, that they can't keep them in stock.

I think I'll try square out. Maybe I need to re-think the whole TSYS thing too. It seems like our fees are pretty high.

Paypal will send a free credit card reader for use with a smartphone. I've used Paypal for years for processing credit cards online. Their transaction fees may be a little higher (actually I don't know that they are...) but there's no monthly fee. Also, more and more people are becoming familiar with Paypal and finding that it's more convenient than credit cards because you don't need to type your whole shipping address. And recently Paypal began offering credit terms so people can buy things with money they don't have, just as with a card.

I did not know about the refund policy.  That's cool.

Got back from Office Depot with a Square Reader, have it set up and took a $1.00 payment.

Easy Peasy.

Now I'm really curious, if the Square Reader Ipad Stand https://squareup.com/stand is a smart solution to the TSYS card reader for a shop like ours.  Since we have a retail store in the front of our shop, I'm sure we take more credit and debit cards than we should for a shop that grosses as little as we do...at least 75 to 100 transactions most months.

So Square is 2.75% per transaction at the beginning at least. We WON'T use the little dohickey on a smartphone for all those, it smacks of amateur hour according to the missus. (Not sure I agree, but whatever...)

Anybody have a word to the wise for me?  One of the gals up front wants me to look into an integrated Point Of Sale sort of solution for Quickbooks etc. I'm waaaay too business UNsavvy to be of much help.

It wasn't too interesting to me until we opened this steenking LABOR INTESIVE retail side. Actually, it does make us some money I guess, but I...personally....am NOT wired for retail type customers. They irritate me. Probably just another of my male shortcomings. I want them to shut up and shop, then shell out or ship off. They're mostly wimmens and irritate me, but i fake it.
