Looking to see if there is anyone that might be able to give me some advice on what to do or where to look that i havent already tried. Just got this machine, we already have one of this model and then also a 4 head, so i kinda know a little bit on this subject. The new machine wont sense thread breaks. with the machine unthreaded it'll still run. I've cleaned the brass contacts so those are all clean. I've removed the back panel and unplugged the two connections back there and air sprayed those out to make sure there was no just on those. Air cleaned the brass on the back side around the plugs. Still nothing. runs without the machine being threaded. runs designs great, but there again no sensing thread breaks. Anything i've over looked or forgotten? is there a setting on the control panel that i'm over looking??? Also this machine does not have the manual design trace option On the D button on the main control where all my others do. this is a 97 machine along with my others that do have the trace option..how could this one not? any help would be great! We have a TMFX II so I'm not sure if the controls are the same but we can turn off the upper thread detection by pushing F2 to #5, TD:,  select 1-5 which is consecutive thread breakage times. A dash is no detection.  If its just certain needles, Hirsch had me spray LB5 in the slot behind the tension knob where the take up spring comes through. Just a squirt, and don't get it all over the friction discs.  They say over time the spring corrodes from mechanical action and looses its conductivity. That is really evident if you have red rust dust around the tension knobs. As for the trace I have no idea. If its the same year as your others check to see if they all have the same software version.

Thanks for the response! that's what it was the sensors were turned off. Now i'll have to clean and spray like you suggested. It senses breaks all the time now. So I turned it back off and have the machine stopping after every color. On my selection I only have 1 or 2. Mine doesn't go up to 5. At least I have it figured out up to this point!

What does this mean?
 consecutive thread breakage times.

Will a higher number detect better, or detect frays better?

Glad it helped. Do you want it to stop after every color or is it doing it automatically?  It is my understanding that consecutive thread breakage is the number of times the needle cycles and a thread break is detected before the machine stops. The lower number will increase the chances of false thread breaks.

I have it set to stop after every color and before the design ends. like I said now its sensing breaks all the time. I've taken apart the tensioners sanded the brass a bit to make good contact sprayed lb5 on them aired them out and still sensing thread breaks..lol I'm not sure. Machine sat for years before I ran it. Runs like a champ sews tight looks great..just working out the bugs now from sitting so long. Price was to good to pass down. This thread break detection is a real stumper though.
