Need a New Flash Unit
« on: December 04, 2014, 01:00:49 PM »
I would like to know of a resource for a quartz flash unit for an Anatol Stratus 18x20" 3 zone cure area.  What other manufacturers have one that will work, and if anyone knows of some prices please PM me some contact info.

Thanks
Chris

Rebuild yours for half - third of the cost of new, it would be better then when it was new.

It has been rebuilt twice, once by Anatol and the second time by me.  I am tired of fn with it every 2-3 months b/c of something else.  Mine only has 9 bulbs  to cure a 20" image area and it is not very efficient.  Newer units from Anatol have more.  I contacted MSI and was told it would not work with the side clamps, and was told the same a few years back by MR.

If your using genuine OEM "Red or Purple" parts that could be the issue why it's not holding up. There are better choices out there for flash parts.

I would think any flash that fits a Diamond back would fit yours. It wouldn't (but most likely could) be plug and play. You would need a prox sensor to tell it when to flash and you would loose the ability to adjust time from the main panel.

Just about any stand flash would work, slide the side clamps out as far as the could go.

There are two aftermarket MFG for flashes to fit the Anatol, both out of Poland. Not sure if shipping would work.

All replacement parts have been ordered through Anatol.  Except for the last 2 fans and relays where from a local supplier.

Are the back of the sockets distorting, like bulbimg to the point the ceramic holder are no longer spring loaded.

I have had a lot of luck with Soneko bulbs and holders, fans and relays from local suppliers.

If i was buying a new quartz right now it would prob be the Red Chili "D".  Our Chili has been there 100% for us and we've been hammering it for awhile now, the D adds an auto temp control/set which would ease the pain of removing it from the connection to your control panel and it has an optical mode that works on any press.  I feel like a Tacana could be modded to mount between side clamps as well.

Brian, there are no sockets.  We had welding issues with the bulbs and sockets from day one.  Now it has been retro fitted where the bulbs wire direct.  Good idea just poorly executed.

When I contacted MR after our second fire I was told it would not work,  I guess I need to give them a call.

If you can wheel the chili in between the clamps, it'll work anywhere with the optical trigger.

i had welding issues with our anatol rapidwave (2001 era) - the bulbs that were sent to me were slightly short so i used spacers to make the bulbs fit tighter. i later had to replace the sockets, bulbs, and wire after the factory splices heated up and the exposed wire shorted to the flash unit cabinet.  i used high heat silicone electrical tape and covered it with fiberglass electrical tape over my splices.  i havent had a problem since.

we also have to Tacanas that are on wheeled stands - i think its too wide (arms of the flash stand), but i can wheel one over to our Trident tomorrow afternoon to see if it would physically fit into the anatol head.

I have an image technology flash that came with my Trident used. I have it on the stand and slide it in between the frame brackets which are loose and maxed out width-wise to not interfere with the flash. It can't be clamped in the head though, it's too thick.

The OTHER pic on this site is the one I have, not the main pic.

If you want to sell the Anatol unit frame/box I'd be interested in building another one DIY-style for my press with all new components.
