Removing White Background Help Needed
« on: October 08, 2014, 03:25:42 PM »
I have a piece that will be going on Black, Lime, Dark Blue and white tees so it will be a sim 4cp job. The art is flat and has a white background that I am struggling to remove. Now, I can remove the white background but I also remove ALL of the white in the process.

Any suggestions?

My initial thoughts at first glance....

Do you have access to the Photoshop file? Because there the image could be adjusted to remove the white you wish to remove and only keep the white where you want it and save it out as a high res transparent background PNG file for you uses.

Jpegs ALWAYS have to have a solid background - so when there is nothing there, it autofills with white when exporting. PNGs off high resolution and the option of solid or transparent backgrounds.

Another option is to remove all the white as you did and then add a new layer under the design and paint back in the white that you want to keep. The image on top has the "holes" where the white needs to go so you don't have to be too precise... - then save out the image as a transparent background PNG

Hope that helps a little!

Yeah,I was thinking that second option as well.

You could feather in some white where you wanted.

Tough road either way.

Also in photoshop you can use your eraser tool and use 2 to 5 percent and erase around the area you'd like to keep takes time but it works.

Thanks guys! To bad it's a 1700 plus piece order that needs to print on Friday, but then it's nice to have the work :-)

I opened it in PS, CS5, selected my Magic Eraser Tool, click "Contiguous" on the menu bar above, then clicked in the white perimeter and got this, if this works for you...

I ended up ripping all of the white out, creating new new layers underneath... one transparent, one black, then painting in white where I need it. It took a while but it worked out great. Thanks for all of the tips
