Air Conditioners for on press cooling
« on: October 08, 2014, 06:02:41 PM »
For the life of me I can't find a post with one but I've seen a bunch of y'all post pics of some units that I thought looked like a blower fan / AC combo.  Basically something you could easily aim onto the platen of a cool down station or between a plasti screen and the platens for cooling.

Seeing a need for 1 or 2 of these in our shop for spot cooling either on tricky revolve print runs on the smaller presses in hot weather or just keeping the crew a little happier when needed.   Wanted to buy them in the off season here.

I think he's referring to those things that you mentioned they use on the oil industry. I want to say Porta Cool but that's not it.

Rig a box fan in wood frame to use in a head.
Works good.

we use these for our employees

Still want to try one of those. Been waiting to see if they would go on sale. We are at the end of our hot season now though. Low 90s high 80s for us now which is bearable.

Those looks about perfect, thx!  Do you use these on a cart and wheel up to a head?  I couldn't quite tell which way the fan blows out. I like that you can divert or duct out the heat too.

We have big arse pedestal fans and a gaggle of box fans on carts for regular cooling.  Heck, we even have a kool mist that I need to get off my own arse and hookup and set procedures for.

These I want for the odd revolve on the 6 color machine with fleece and big plasti prints.  On our hottest days with a couple presses running with flashes the whole shop temp can be enough to frustrate after flash cooling to the point where more than a fan is needed.  Blowing around 95˚ air just isn't enough in those cases if you are moving faster on the press. The jobbies Eric posted should be a band aid for those times and I think running select jobs on the larger press with more cool down heads would also help.

When not needed on the press to cool I'd like to have a couple just to keep the crew cool enough to think straight too.

On spot these are cool... to cool a room, useless.

Even though this summer was mild they are a nice little thanks to our employees for braving the heat. It's really nice to have a spot of refreshing air hit you, when all you have around you is fans blowing hot air around.

We don't use them on press at all, but each employee has one, and they wheel it over to their station, wherever they are working.

The only bad thing about these, is the cord is like 4ft long. We had to build extension cords for every one.

I'd say, don't dick around... Get the best if you want something like those.
