I usually stay at the hotel that the convention center is connected to, The Hyatt, it is usually maybe $10 or so more expensive but the convenience of it is well worth it!

if you're not booked in a hotel 5 hours after the notification email.. good luck!

I stay at the Pike, great place if you can get a room.

The hyatt is nice as it's next to the convention center and has a really nice bar area.

Um, ya, 10 miles away you can be in Compton. Found that out the hard way the first year:o

The Howard Johnson is also a popular place within walking distance. Forgot what the other two are. The Queen Mary is usually cheaper, but after the first 2 hrs. It looses its appeal and the paper thin walls are also a negative. Especially when you are watching Dirty Jobs and all of a sudden you have what seems like a front row seat of couple in the room next door getting to know each other in the biblical sense.... :-[

Splurge and stay at the Hyatt, great Sunday morning breakfast!

I'm bringing some of the crew this year so I need to find somewhere a little friendlier on the pocket book.

Also I'm pretty sure they run a free bus to all the hotels on a regular schedule.

You can literally go 2 miles away and be in the hood! That's what happened to us a few years ago. So yeah splurge and stay close.

my rate is about half that  8)

helps to know people

FYI.. long beach is not a nice town and 3 blocks away from the convention center is deep in the hood. Stay at a hotel miles away at your own risk.

Being cheap and living within a budget, we can really only afford the motels about six blocks south near what I guess you guys call the hood. During the day, a very nice walk past coffee joints and sidewalk-tabled bistros.
Last year we even walked another six or so blocks further south Saturday night to meet up with friends and didn't feel threatened.
In fact, I find every year a little nicer.
Nothing like I was lead to believe ten years ago.

I can't ever find mid priced stuff.
I see a jump from about $70 to $170 (or more) with nothing in-between, Still looking though.
That rug really tied the room together, did it not?

going south/east along ocean blvd is pretty nice, it's when you go north of broadway that things start to get a little shady.

Went to my first LB show back in 2001.. back when the pike was nothing but a huge dirt parking lot and you didn't dare walk more than two blocks up pine ave.
