I get my shirts from India and go there at least once a year.
You should try them, at that price you have nothing to loose.
One big advantage is the time difference, they work while you sleep.
Send them a file in the late afternoon and it will be ready in the morning.

We do all of our digitizing and vector work in house. So I doubt id use this anyway but for people sending it out already... id say worth a shot.

From time to time I use a college kid in Sri Lanka for art work.....The 1.80 an hour he charges is like a "gift from god" for him and his family....Sadly I do not have much need lately.....

We had a overseas digitizer we used way back in the day and each job he treated with so much care because it was "a lot" of money for him even though it wasn't much compared to USA digitizing costs.  His work was better than most we tried though.  I always prefer to use USA when possible though.  Not much need for that stuff anymore here though, but never know.

most of the issues I've seen with going off shore were created with bad communication skills. Finding a good communicator and a proficient digitizer will be the key.

Bottom line for this trend:
+ for the Indian
+ for you (and maybe your client
- for our working class as a whole (it is not a coincidence that as more and more things moved off shore, basic needs that can't be imported  like shelter, and health have gotten less and less affordable for the working class)

And yes, I am guilty as well with my cheap T's and occasional artwork touch-up that even with an American company, uses some foreign labor

Keep in mind, they are not making $1/hr. It is typically $4-8 per design, and I bet 75% of re draws take less than a hour....

and my ¢.02 with my current drawing and digitizing company that is based here in 'Murica. When we get the vectored files back they have chinese characters for all the layers in illustrator, so I am guessing that the Yuan and Rupee might be the same.

I wonder if some of these companies aren't just turning around and "brokering" the deal between offshore and the customer (us).

So your US digitizer sends the stuff off, gets it back and marks it up.  Maybe they take care of edits or something vs back and forth with Asia... Just wondering because it has caught my attention as a potential business model. LOL

A digitizing firm in Southern California that wins awards for it's work every year certainly sends its work to India.

I hate to say it but this is basically the type of work that the US can't really compete on, except
for the language barrier. There's no shipping involved.

I still go with SSDigitizing, I *THINK* it's all done in the US.

I know he turns around stuff super fast when I need it and it's always done well.  Cost more, but I'd rather keep that money in the country than send it around the globe.
