Hey Jason I was looking at the Wacom tablets and also was wondering which one to choose from. Right now I have none so I guess any would help but the price range is all over the place. What size do ya need which one is the best bang for the buck and things like that I am unfamiliar with.

I bought a used Wacom Intuos 2 off eBay a couple of years ago for $150, a 9 x 12. I don't draw much, but I do have to make masks and selections, and find it much easier than a mouse to work with once I got used to it. On the high end, the Cintiq looks very cool...

Dan will be drooling. I picked up a new Intuos 4 medium from MacMall's eBay store for $319 including shipping. I had an old, small Wacom tablet from years ago that I sh!tcanned as it worked off of the old Apple desktop bus, and it had none of the features of the new stuff.

I have a Intuos 4 medium and love it. I use a 9x12 at the shop and got this medium for the house and I like the medium better. These compared to the Bamboo are night and day.

I've watched a few YouTube vids of people using these things, and I'm floored by the amount of customization you can do with the newer models. I intend to use for photoretouching and inking vector art predominantly. Tracing outlines of varying width, both sides, with a mouse, sux. I recall a comment long ago by an artist using a mouse to draw, and he said it was like drawing with a shoe.

Inkwerks I was wondering how the Intuos 4 medium worked that one is more in my price range. How is the learning curve on one? They have several on e-bay used and new but I would go ahead and purchase a new one since the used ones are as close as $50 to a new one. As of now I am still using a Shoe!!! as Tpitman said.

I love it. The sensitivity is great. It is also able to be setup for a right or left handed user. I am all F'd I write with my left, draw with the pen with my left, and draw with the mouse using my right hand. So I was able to adapt to my needs perfectly. Once you get used to it the time saved makes the cost nothing once you get used to it. Besides switching to a Mac it one of the best investments. It is a huge time saver for sure.  In no time if you do a lot of art it more than pays for itself. Plus it makes a great babysitter for my little one. She can draw on it for hours.......lol
