You could set your auto save for every 5,10,20,30 or 60 minutes. At least in X4 I canOptions-Workspace-Save

I do the same... problem is it's amazing what you can do in 5 minutes....just had x4 close out on me as I was sending seps to the printer....and I did not follow my own rule of save before send...son of a b....

Bingo! And backups are a product of saves.
Also there are places- I forget exactly where on the system, it is different for various OS -- where the temp-files can still be recovered if there is a crash,
