CCI water resistant blockout

I just ordered some supplies from Nazdar and took advantage of the free quart of Water Resistant blockout.  Ran a natural discharge run this afternoon and lost 12 shirts by the time we realized the blockout had let go.  I applied the blockout with a little squeegee and let it dry in front of a fan for about 30 minutes.  Seems pretty cut and dry but did i miss something in the process?  The free quart cost me much more than I had expected.

Chubsetc:  Sorry to hear that you had issues with the CCI Aquablock.  In reading your post it sounds like you did everything right.  You can rest assured if you lost a dozen shirts because of a product that didn't perform Nazdar SourceOne will make it right.  Please PM me with your contact info so I can follow-up tomorrow.

I put a little on the screen, little pressure in the area I want blocked to push it into the mesh, then smear a little over the area like coating a screen. Then dry like you in front of a fan.

That sucks. I do it the same way as Binkspot.....we have run jobs 5k & up with no problems.

That's odd, is it the purple aquablock? We use that stuff everyday and have never had issues. Stupid question, but was your screen dry before you put the block out on?

stupid question but did you apply the blockout to an area that gets printed, like just inside the squeegie print zone?


we use it more and more on wb jobs for insurance and so far, I haven't heard the big "AHHH FFFFKKK" from the back shop so I suppose it's working....

I had 1 person that was putting it on too thin and this caused some issues.  We apply a little thicker and have had 0 issues since.  Be sure the block out is completely dry prior to printing.

No tape on the substrate side. We still use tape on the squeegee side bc I can't stand the ink getting in the cracks of the frame.

...we are using it in leiu of screen tape. We coat with a 19" coater, leaving about 1/2 inch between the coating and the frame edge. We then can blockout this open area with one swipe of a blockout card (we use a small square of squeegee rubber for this). As far as ink on the frames, yeah it happens, but we give the frames themselves a quick swipe during the reclaim process and it takes care of it. Still, much less expensive than screen tapes.

...I should also note that we use static frames and not rollers. I would think that trapped ink inside where the mesh meets the frame on a roller would be much harder to access and keep clean.

We use it in place of fingernail polish on Friday nights;D Seriously, we use it instead of fingernail polish for blocking out pin holes, reg marks, ect. Never tried using it in place if tape, but we run 25x36 frames for the most part. So if we coat the screen waaaay out to the edge we rarely need to use tape anyway.

we use it to block out reg marks, pinholes, sides of the screen etc.... we use it in lieu of emulsion. It dries faster and is more resistant than the emulsion, especially if you put it out in the sun to dry for a little bit.

Just an update, I received a PM from Peter who made sure someone got in touch with me to talk about the issue, even though it was not their fault they generously offered to send me a different product I use to make up for the loss of the shirts.  I told them I was not upset with them but really just wanted to get to the bottom of what happened because I've heard its a great product.

To explain better, I covered some pinholes, and 2 center reg marks, after drying I put the screens in and started production.  About 15 shirts in or so we started seeing the center marks breakdown.  They felt that even though it was dry to the touch the blockout may have not been completely dried through. Next time I will probably double coat for security and dry a longer.
