Old problem I have from time to time

I know this is probably silly but I have this issue at this with spot color printing with a blocky edge. Like a large text edge in the ink well area as I push my squeegee through the image area the edge of the blade gets stuck or stops att the furthest edge of the ink well area and then I have to reset and push again which if there happen to be any halftone in it they ain't halftones anymore. I have found the only thing I can do to keep from the squeegee stopping on that edge is to push the squeegee at an angle perpendicular to the edge of the ink well area that I get stuck on. I hope I said this that makes sense to you all. Any input would be great, thanks in advance!

That happens to me as well and even if you dont have halftones you end up with a small lump of ink where the squeegee gets stuck. I try to lighten up on pressure and make sure you are not letting up the pressure toward the end of the stroke, follow thru.

Having a deep enough area to start the squeegee helps to pick up good speed and maintain consistent pressure. If you only have an inch to start with you end up trying to get enough speed to keep the squeegee going and sacrifice consistent pressure, I do as you do and go at an angle nothing wrong with doing that if it works.

I push at an angle as in one hand is slightly further up than the other does the trick. This only happens to me on 110 and lower mesh.

You could always switch to a pull stroke for halftones (but it shouldn't be necessary)... the squeegee blade will be at a trailing angle.
Hard on your wrists... but every auto strokes this way.

I use pull strokes, but have taught several new guys how to print.
Common mistakes I see from everyone at the start ( and myself when I'm not paying attention ).

- Not enough ink in front of the blade to do the full stroke ( or too much ).
- Blade not 'seated' properly down against the screen before the stroke
- possibly exerting more pressure with one hand than the other.
- Speed ( trying to go too fast, blade 'skips' along the print )
- Not working the ink enough before starting.
- starting distance and follow through, which were mentioned.

- walk away now and then, everyone wants everything in a rush anyways.

A 'proper' flood stroke ( little to no pressure, just coat the image area of the screen, not really push ink through )
before the actual shear stroke helps on large open images.

Yup. This was something I was also told to do when printing coroplast panels against the flutes. I've had it happen to me on mesh counts as high as 230. Anymore I always push print with my squeegie skewed.
