Creating the look of duct tape on a shirt

Alright, so here's a screen shot of the seps that DTD for me on this design. The only thing not showing on this is a hd clear gel that I printed after the print. The print was base, flash, then the rest of the colors WOW, flash, hd clear last for the sheen/density of that. No puff or anything on this. Just regular colors printed @ 55 lpi on here, really no magic just good art and seps. Like mentioned above I used the same piece of tape for the each piece but it would def look better using different images of tape. The key to printing the duct tape is having a really good photo of a piece of tape that has a lot of ribbing, depth, etc. If anyone has any questions let me know and I'll try to help.

The print looks so 'real', and knowing that it's basically just a flat print on the shirt makes the print that much cooler.

that's what I'm sayin, still one of the top 5 best prints I've ever seen!...it's the highlights and shadows that are just awesome....Danny is a BAMF for sure.

Quick question on the HD clear, what kind of emulsion/cap film/coating method?  I havent played much with HD inks, but I would like to...  Any issues with properly curing the thicker deposit?

Thought I'd give an update...

Here's my test print:  sorry for the cell-phone camera image... it actually looks a lot better in person.



it started out as a picture of duct tape on a white piece of paper.  I brought that into photoshop and knocked out the background, then used separation studio to create the base white, gray (aka liquid silver), and highlight white screens.  I also used photoshop to create some areas where I was going to put puff ink down to build it up.

The puff didn't work out too well, probably would really need to work on the separations for that part of it if I decide to have texture, but as it stands, it looks pretty damn good, and I and my customer are happy with how it'll look printed.  Plus, with it not having a the puff layer, it's very production friendly.

The liquid silver actually has enough opacity to get away without needing the underbase as well...  but it looks shiny-er with the underbase.

3 colors - base white, liquid silver, top white.  could have possibly gotten away without the base white, but it makes the silver pop that much more.

now on to the actual shirt... this was just a test run to experiment.
