Virus water based ink
« on: June 11, 2014, 11:45:33 AM »
Has anyone ever used this?  It is made in Italy; and I am not sure if they have distribution set up here in the states.   Curious if anyone has feedback any on it.

One of our suppliers just started carrying it. Hopefully be testing a few of their lines shortly, and will be sure
to report back here when we do.

I just bought a couple sample sets to play around with.  I will let you know if we start stocking it for sure.  Their claim of 30 day activated ink shelf life sounds pretty cool.

SPR has them.
So far, that is the only supplier in the States that carries them, and they only have stock in CA.

I talked to Virus people and they are looking for more suppliers. Contact them and they will be happy to talk to you.

We would be glad to test some samples of the Virus, if you have any to spare send it up my way...

same here! I'd love to try it out here. The print they were doing at Long Beach was the whitest white and reddest red I've ever seen!

Yes, we've won our share of awards, and yes, I've tested stuff and read the scientific papers, but ultimately take everything I say with more than just a grain of salt! So if you are looking for trouble, just do as I say or even better, do something I said years ago!

These guys have them and have sample kits for $225
http://www.spresource.com/

No smell with Discharge and a long shelf file. I believe it has liquid activator and it is not a hazardous material.

It is a liquid activator. There are a few suppliers in the states but only a few. The kit we got was around $200-$250 can't remember at the moment. From the demo I went to they instruct you to double hit all colors with a 1/4" off contact. ( yes a 1/4" off contact ). Have not had the time to mess with it at the shop as of yet. But I know a few people that are using it & likening it. The white is a nice bright white. This is the hydra series we worked with at the demo, they have a few lines though.

1/4" off contact

Hydra is the opaque non-discharge wb inks.

They tend to be rather thick and sticky, about like printing athletic stuff with no base.

Get use to it now, it's the future. I for one am excited about it.

Just ordered the kit, should be in next week.

Pigs are compatible with discharge and opaque bases.

Stoked.

Our local distributer here in Colorado fully stocks Virus - I believe he is 1 of 4 US distributors. Eric@woohooscreenprintsupplies.com is his email and like I said he pretty much has everything in stock for Virus.

We have been testing/playing around with the ink for several months and while it has some serious pro's it also has some pretty big con's imo. As far as their discharge I would take CCI over it all day long, not even comparable for me but some of the special fx, bases, and general purpose inks rock. We have been printing the clear 120 e w/ black pigment for our go to waterbase black for a while now and it kicks butt.

I'll try to jump on here when I can with more info but we are slammed right now. On our 23 setup of the day right now LOL
