Clear/Translucent Plastisol Transfer paper?
« on: September 02, 2014, 10:58:27 PM »
I have always used the Ultra Strip 3000 paper from here: http://acescreensupply.com/product_info.php?products_id=98 for my plastisol transfers.  I tested a bunch of brands/suppliers and it performed the best and came in the 19x12.5 dimensions that I typically use due to my film output.

Recently I have started doing much more 6+ color transfer work and started incorporating higher levels of detail as well.  My only real gripe with the Ultra Strip is you can't see through it, meaning you can't see small issues with registration very easily.  I was wondering if anyone has heard of or currently uses a clear or translucent paper or material instead that would make verifying registration easier.

I already use and print registration marks and verify registration throughout the run, but I am finding that on some projects it may seem in register, but when pressed there are small issues do to paper warp or skew that aren't immediately obvious.

Years ago, one of the first shirt shops I worked in had a plexiglass light board on which they printed transfers to help registration. Essentially made the paper "clearer"

Fast forward about twenty years, and folks like Ace, were some of the early adopters of the direct to screen systems that they said assured their transfers to be in register.
That rug really tied the room together, did it not?

Aside from the registration benefits you desire, the biggest benefit is that they do not have the dimensional instability as paper do. Temperature and humidity has no adverse affect..
