CAREFUL Eric. This is sensitive stuff. Aqueous based sodium hydroxide. Its the main ingredient in a household product (care to guess?) but never the less handle with care and use the proper PPE and ventilate heavily. It destroys cotton leaving poly behind after washing. The excess lint can choke your clothes dryer so we used a professional launderer. Its very tricky stuff and you can ruin a lot of product very easily however that said, if you master it you can come up with some very cool stuff when designed right. I've found it best as an element of a design rather than an entire graphic.
Remember it requires a post laundering so charge accordingly. In the end after cost analysis we simply priced the process out of existence.

People think of it as new but its actually an old process previously referred to as fabric etching. I have a book on it somewhere. Velvet lampshade patterns are/were often decorated this way. When the bulb is lit the pattern shines through. If you wish to color it procion dyes are best. We did a sample for the Ramones this way using their circular logo on fleece, giving it a discharge halo. It was pretty stunning. Garments like this can retail upwards of $80 at stores such as Fred Segal

I'd bet it's even better than WB/discharge at breaking down stencils too...   ;D

If you can't find some you could always print with some pool chlorine, that stuff eats my shorts every time I put it in the pool. I was going to try it once but didn't have time. I wouldn't of ran it though the dryer, just let it air dry. Id say 50/50 with a water base clear and you have some ink, or a bomb. Most likely a bomb.

No mixing or possible reactions needed, soft scrub with bleach is already the right consistency.

As an added benefit, you'll be half done reclaiming the screen ten or fifteen minutes after you start.  ;)
