How do you deal with pet euthanasia

I know this might sound strange but I found it easier to deal with my father passing away a few years ago then loosing my pet through an freak accident that caused her horrific spinal injuries and immense suffering for a day. I find it really hard to cope with and my wife who I thought was more rational she is even more devastated.

I get this completely, it's really different. I think that because you can converse with people, it gets rationalized out. But with pets, you can't do that...

Anyway, we got our dear beloved friend cremated yesterday, gave her the  final farewell and now she sit in a nice urn on our shelf at home. I`m still lost for words and my wife is getting already fed up of me being so childish. Well the kids at least have made it shrine now by placing food offerings next to the urn and say bye bye when they leave for school. Just wondering how do you know it`s time to find a new friend that can help you over the loss. It will be hard to replace her though and I `m not sure if she ever can be replaced.

Hey Matthias, I am very sorry for your loss. I have been there a few times as well. Today I had to take Angus our 18 year old cat in for a check up. And next month is it Patty's turn and she is a 12 year old Black Lab. Sooner than later I will be in that position again. I hope you are doing okay and things will get better for you. Just takes time.
