Large orders... do you count them?
« on: March 12, 2014, 12:50:42 PM »
Just got our first large order 1500 shirts.  1 color front and back (left chest woot!) Only downside is it's white on purple, but they are ring spun!

Anyway... got 950 lbs of shirts on the pallet today and my office manager said "do I need to count them (individually)?"

I thought it was a good question.   When you guys are doing large orders like this do you guys count them all in?

we count everything TWICE!
Before and after printing.

Yes, we've won our share of awards, and yes, I've tested stuff and read the scientific papers, but ultimately take everything I say with more than just a grain of salt! So if you are looking for trouble, just do as I say or even better, do something I said years ago!

they should be counted in before staging and obviously counted out before shipping.

We count when they come in, when they are laid out to print and before they are packed. It cant hurt and its just counting, not that hard to do!!

Count them.  We count them on the way in and the machine counts them for us as we print.

Everything is counted 3 times here. Pulling when they come in, the press counts them, and counted when coming out of the dryer and going back in boxes. It is VERY worth it vs. hearing a customer claim they are short 4 $18 hoodies....

P.S. Where the hell have you been? ;D

we always count them... every time.

if doing 2 sided prints of more than 1 color per side, we add a few extras of each size, especially if a longer run.

if we didn't make any oops shirts, we include the extras when we ship.

I NEVER want a customer to call me and say we left out a shirt.  Our customers are usually ordering exact #'s, so if they're short, we look bad.

Welcome back. Thought you bought the farm.. er restaurant.

All orders checked in, db auto emails client if it's contract work, order is counted by machine when printed and
then counted after every print location. Sucks to get to the last print location and fine you're short
a piece or two.

Exact same here.

I could keep an employee busy simply counting all day every day, so no, not when they come in, but as someone else said, when they are staged, absolutely, and of course as they are boxed. (we just had to let a guy go because he couldn't seem to do that) We do however, check the packing slips and number of cases, but not open and count every piece. We are fortunate enough to be within 30 - 45 minute driving distance from Bodek, AlphaBroder (NES branch) and Commonwealth Cotton, so in most emergencies, someone can go get what we need.

Just a thought......There is a cost to counting them coming in.....Instead of incurring this cost, why not order extra shirts?....Then count them on the way out....Customer should end up with extra shirts at no extra cost to you....Or you end up with extra blanks if you can stop printing when you have enough for the order...

We count everything don't matter 12 pc or 1500, count on the way in and on the way back out, also check size's check for holes etc.  We treat every order the same big or small...

exactly , box count here , check supplier packing slip, counter on machine , boxed back in 72's. Counting 1500 shirts and checking for holes ( there are to many places to look front back under sleeves) would be an absolute night mare here. Never have had issues with orders.
