How do you charge for bigger image sizes
« on: March 07, 2014, 11:26:19 PM »
Especially I`m interested if you guys charge only more for screens or do you charge as well more for the printing?  Right now we charge only more for screens when the image is exceeding our standard image size but the print charge stays the same. Just wondering if I should consider as well upping the print charge for the bigger image areas?

I charge according to image size (cost of films), frame size (cost of emulsion) and ink used (cost of inks).

It might be only a few cents, but a few cents go a long way here.

12x12 is normal, but will go to 14x16 in some cases (depends on the art and customer).
15x17 is oversized and is $0.50 per print more
20x22 (if we can do it) is jumbo and everything is double.

Yes, we've won our share of awards, and yes, I've tested stuff and read the scientific papers, but ultimately take everything I say with more than just a grain of salt! So if you are looking for trouble, just do as I say or even better, do something I said years ago!

We primt up to 15x17 no extra charge.  15x23 we charge more for that based on job.  With our new press should be able to do larger with some larger pallets later.

Larger prints takes more ink, more emulsion, more tape etc, so yes charge a little more for it if your market will let you.  white ink is the number one killer for larger prints it will always take more.
