embroidery machine coming soon
« on: March 06, 2014, 05:37:47 PM »
We just finally bit the bullet on a used 2000 model 6 head 9 color Barudan .  We currently screenprint, make signs, banners, repair rock pecked windshields and letter trucks.  I'm thinking the embroidery should max us out with just me, my wife and a part timer.  Sorry for the post, just wanted to tell someone.  I'm sure I'll have questions here on the board concerning embroidery because I'll admit I know absolutely nothing about it.

Yeah when we got our tajima I kinda bombarded the forum with questions (after I took an emb 101 class) but got some very good help. Folks here don't mind pitching in and helping when they can!

Thanks for the encouragement it's always kind of scary when making the initial purchase.  We've been driving 30 miles to deliver items to be embroidered the lady has always done a fantastic job but she is getting ready to retire so we decided we'd better do something.  By the way when I said 6 head 9 color I meant to say 9 needle.  I'm just so used to talking about presses.

May I ask how much such a machine cost second hand?
I know if I buy one in Japan I`ll pay at least twice as much as you guys over there. So even with shipping I would be cheaper off buying a second hand unit in the States.

We ended up giving $18200 for the machine with 2 sets of hoops included

also, you can spend a ton of time asking questions on forums, but I really recommend some training classes...ones that cover everything like how to sew and especially maintenance.

I would think it is cheaper because Barudan and Tajima are Japanese companies. Just like the Murakami mesh you are getting.

Both are excellent machines.

I agree that I'll need training.  The 2 days they give included in the price won't be near enough I'm sure.  It would be just like someone telling you everything to know in screenprinting in just 2 days.  I've been doing that for 20+ years and still run into an issue here and there.

I would not be so sure about that. Japanese manufacturers sell their equipment here in Japan at an outrageous profit margin will dumping them on the foreign market for much less. Same reason why we buy most of our supplies, ok apart from mesh, from the States. I can get gallons of Chromaline emulsion shipped by FedEx and still pay less then for Murakamis products bought directly of them here in Japan. But I might ask them for some quotes. Which of the two brands, Barudan and Tajima, offer the better machines and then which have the lower prices?

I believe Tajima is just as good as Barudan.
The reason why we sent for Barudan in the 90's is because people here said Barudan is for lettering while Tajima is for graphics. I don't believe in this.

We run all our Barudans 24hours per day Monday to Saturday in an air conditioned room while Sunday is for cleaning. Extremely reliable.

When you meet with Tajima or Barudan, look at the size of designs you are planning to do. Then ask how long it will take to embroider the designs (add several minutes for stoppage time). That way you will know how many heads is good for you for your average projects.

Last year we bought a new 6h barudan and a new single tajima both are super nice machines. I don't think you could go wrong going with either brands.
