trying a kruzer
« on: February 25, 2014, 02:32:39 PM »
Have need for another manual.
Usual manual 1-2 color 18 pc stuff.
Our vastex 2000 seemed to be overkill for this piece, even though we have beaucoup vastex pallets and the digit number thing.
But all our autos have the slide pallets, and we have a huge assortment in them, so decided to try the kruzer.
So we are bringing the iss ac one home.

Billed as entry level, but most of our manual work is entry level small run stuff, so figured what the heck.

Will let everyone know how this works out. Maybe we're right. Maybe we're wrong.

You will find you are not wrong. What we call entry level is top of the line for some.

I'm not sure if I'm the only one on this site currently using this press for production, but I use it 8 hours a day every day and it is a great press.  I've had it in my shop for about 6 weeks now and probably have about 2500 prints on it so far, and I couldn't be happier.  I know M&R bills it as their entry level press, but honestly it feels on the level with the high end models of the other brands that I have played with.  In many ways it is comparable to the v2000 but for half the cost and the benefits of compatibility with all M&R pallets.  You made the right call in my opinion.

Slightly off topic, but since Rich is in this thread and it's about the Kruzer, I was wondering if you can add pneumatic screen locks to it.  I'm liking the idea more and more of tricking mine out to speed up as much of the setup process as possible, and seeing them in action on Alan's Sidewinder was pretty sweet...

There are no options on the KruZer. It's on a production line with no ability to change anything. Of we did it would be priced similar to the Sidewinder.

I understand it is a stock press with a single configuration coming from y'all.  I was just curious if you could use the same pneumatic kit/add-on for the sidewinder on the kruzer with some modifications.  I didn't get out my ruler, but it seemed like the side clamps on the sidewinder where essentially the same when it came to the actual clamp.  I know the way switches and the tubing mount to the sidewinder would require modifications to work with the Kruzer.  Just wondering what specifically would prevent it from working.

I'll take as is.  A quality press like that with slide clamps beats the hell out of my crappy press with rear clamps.

I do love the side clamps.  So much help with warped screens, and lining up without the triloc is super quick without any movement when you clamp down the screen since it is basically already floating in place above the platen.

I'm looking forward to seeing the Kruzer at the ISS show. I'm also interested in hearing your feedback on how it stacks up against the Vastex V2000, which I think is one of the best manuals out there. I know it may not be the fairest comparison as the Kruzer is priced closer to the V1000, and either the sidewinder or chameleon would probably be the fairer competitor.

If someone can test it with the tri lock at the show it would be awesome.

I have a sidewinder and just received a Sportsman 10-12 the beginning of January. I was thinking of selling my rear clamp sidewinder and going with the Kruzer so I can tri-loc everything and streamline to having all the same size frames.

I was also wondering if it is possible to retrofit it with air locks?.  I cannot justify buying the retrofit for the sidewinder because I also have the short pallet arms because I had the press in a tight space, and I would need too many parts to use the 23-31 frames on mine now. 4 frame clamps seems like a little extra work when you are used to two, or air locks on an auto.

I'm using 23x31's on mine, but still havent gotten the tri-loc.  Even without it I am setting up 6 color jobs in about 15-17 minutes right now including the test printing and tweaking.  The clamps don't take a lot of time, but I think airlocks would be an awesome additional if there is a way to make them work.

Sorry but not available on the Kruzer.
