DC/WB print question
« on: February 19, 2014, 02:04:13 PM »
have a job that we are going to be doing on charcoal shirts. design is red/white/black. so black will be waterbase, red and white discharge. what order would I run this? I've always thought that you should run White last in discharge when possible to avoid stepping on it and not dull it/pick up white. in my head I would run Black/FLASH/Red/White. Any help would be good. Also in the design, white and red touch and red/black touch. White and black do not touch. Also Original design was run White/Red/Black, screens-160 mesh, 5% activator red, 10% activator white. Was run by people who know what they are doing but seeing this is really my first multi-color discharge, wanted to see what the opinions ( I know there will be many) are. thanks

Without seeing the design a general answer from me would be black / red / white. No flashing, you don't need to. Butt reg is fine. For your screens well that again depends on the art in my opinion. Just my 2 cents, as I am sure there are a zillion other ways to do it.

My buddy Lorzie says "you gotta pop 'em". Meaning as they come off the dryer hot you want to stretch them apart. It makes them softer IMO. Also test the garment to see how well they discharge.

If you have the proper water content in your white discharge it shouldnt really matter what order you do them in as it will act like any other ink, at least from my testing.  When I was less experienced at discharge and didnt add enough water to it the ink would sit a bit above the shirt instead of fully into it and was stickier, which caused issues with brightness and consistency if it wasn't the last screen.  A lot will depend on the design of course, and if you want to trap anything or run the black on top of either of the other inks.  For some designs with certain details I find it is simply quicker and easier to run the black last.

What Brandon said.

Many whites can't be printed WOW so they must be printed last - including the white we use.
