« on: February 14, 2014, 03:09:28 PM »
Yesterday had a long day printing, but nothing than any other day and I hear the compressor sounding funny so I checked it and it was running slow still pumping air.  Ok this morning its back to normal running fine, but just a few minutes ago it kick on and back to running slow...I'm thinking my motor might be going any of you ever had this problem that they can share before I call an air compressor company.

Is it starting slow like it's struggling then speed up or just running slow? Is it hunting (slow fast slow fast)?
Single phase with capiciators or 3 phase?
Brand?

@ Paul oil was the first thing I checked looks fine, @ Bink, no it starts fine running normal speed then later in the day it kicks on and runs slow and yes it's single phase...brand is AMP (Air Moving Products) I've had this unit for 6 years now.

sounds like your starting contacts or capacitor is going bad. Fix soon or motor will probably fail

Hey thanks all I'm thinking the same thing cause it only runs slow when it gets real hot.

Pull motor have it checked, if needed have repaired. I would bet capacitors. The cheaper way at least.

Generally speaking it doesn't pay to check and or repair a motor under 10hp. If you can change the capacitor and maybe bearings yourself its worth it but beyond that throw it out and pick up a new one.

totally agree. Check the starter before and make sure the contacts are good or you could take out the new motor.
